Philip Nias joined BLME in September 2007 as Head of Project Finance. In 2009, Philip transferred to BLME Private Bank as a Director of Corporate Advisory. Prior to joining BLME Philip was Head of Project Finance at the London Branch of Banca Nazionale del Lavoro and, prior to that, co-head of Project Finance at Bankgesellschaft Berlin. Philip began his banking career in the project finance team at Hill Samuel Bank and has many years experience in both advisory and lending in the UK and internationally across a wide range of sectors. Before banking, Philip practised as a civil and structural engineer with WS Atkins.
Edward Nicholson
Head of Advisory Business
Edward Nicholson joined BLME in 2008 to assist start up BLME’s Wealth Management and Advisory activities and now leads the Advisory business. He has more than 30 years experience in investment banking and management consultancy. Previously, Edward has worked for the Barclays Group in a variety of responsibilities including General Manager of the group’s banking activities in Spain, Director in Barclays Zoete Wedd’s (BZW) corporate finance division in London and led BZW’s privatization initiative in Latin America from Brazil. Subsequent to his work at Barclays, Edward joined McKinsey & Company as a co-founder and leader of McKinsey’s Corporate Finance and Strategy practice for Latin America, based in Sao Paulo. Edward was involved with a number of corporate M&A, reconstruction and strategy assignments for government and private entities across a range of industries and Latin American. He also advised several global private equity businesses on their investment strategy for the region before returning to the UK in 2004, where he established his own advisory business. Edward is a non-executive director of Metalurgica Peruana, Sudamericana de Fibras and Mercator Partnership and serves in a consultative capacity to the Family and Privately owned Business unit of Coutts Bank plc.
Dr Natalie Schoon
Head of Product Research
Natalie joined Bank of London and The Middle East plc (BLME) in April 2007 as Head of Product Research. Prior to this Natalie was at Barclays Capital where she worked as a senior consultant on the Basel II programme. Natalie has worked in international financial organisations such as ABN Amro and Gulf International Bank. She began her career in Islamic Finance whilst working in Bahrain, Kuwait and Dubai during the 1990’s. Natalie holds a PhD in financial analysis (thesis subject: Residual Income Models and the Valuation of Conventional and Islamic Banks) and is an accredited trainer for the Islamic Finance Qualification which she teaches globally.
