Principle: The best innovation
respects tradition

Welcome to BLME Markets

BLME Markets Division is our driving force. It funds our Banking Division, manages BLME’s liquidity and provides innovative Sharia’a compliant hedging, yield and FX structures. The Markets Division incorporates our Treasury and Financial Institutions businesses, and is BLME’s point of contact with international banks, financial institutions and corporate treasurers.

BLME MARKETS ACTIVITIES

The Markets Division is responsible for a number of activities within the bank:

  • Funding the Corporate Banking Division by sourcing Sharia’a compliant funds from the world’s financial centres and dealing with counterparties in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the USA.
  • Managing the Bank’s balance sheet risks – including mismatch and liquidity risks – within prescribed limits using a number of Sharia’a compliant instruments. These include Commodity Murabaha and Wakala as well as innovative, structured Sharia’a products that allow far more precise management of risks than had been available to the Islamic financial community in the past.
  • Providing pricing to clients in a number of Islamic Money Market, Foreign Exchange and Sukuk products.
  • Managing the Bank’s portfolio of Sukuk and syndicated Murabaha transactions.

The Financial Institutions team establishes and manages BLME’s relationships with banks in London and internationally. This includes the setting up of lines with counterparties and the development of reciprocal business.

These relationships are used to source financing transactions and investment opportunities, and to distribute transactions originated by BLME.
